West Bengal government is working for land acquisition of 110 acres for the Bagdogra airport in Darjeeling district. State Tourism Minister Goutam Deb confirmed that the work is on progress. State government is talking to the owners of two gardens for land required in North Bengal"We have to give the 110 acres land to the Airport Authority of India (AAI) for expansion of Bagdogra Airport. We are actively pursuing for it," Deb confirmed and stated on the side-lines of Infocom 2018. Due to the expansion, number of flights and amount of passengers will increase the landing facilities.
The present airport infrastructure is inadequate to handle the increasing volume of traffic and congestion, AAI asked the government to expand the land. Night landing facilities will be helpful for the pilots and airport authorities at Bagdogra Airport.
