India secured two gold medals in a single day at the Paralympics. Sumit Antil in javelin and Nitesh Kumar in badminton won gold medals for the country.
Nitesh Kumar from Haryana won gold in badminton for India. Nitesh lost a leg in a train accident in 2009. He graduated from IIT Mandi. However, at the Paris Olympics, he faced Great Britain's Daniel Bethell. This is his first appearance at the Paralympics, and Nitesh won gold for India. After gold winning Nitesh said, "I have lost a lot in life. Now I just want to win."
Meanwhile, Sumit Antil won gold in the F64 category at the Tokyo Paralympics. In Tokyo, he had won with a throw of 68.55 meters, which was a game record. But he broke the game record twice in the javelin on Monday. First with a throw of 69.11 meters and then with 70.59 meters.
He lost his father at just seven. But after that, Sumit dreamt of becoming a wrestler and winning medals for his country. However, his dreams were shattered when he lost his left leg in a bike accident at 17. Later, with a prosthetic leg, he returned to sports and found success in javelin.
