New Traffic Rules: The Barrackpore Police have introduced new guidelines to ease traffic congestion at Dunlop Crossing

The Barrackpore Police have issued new directives to alleviate traffic congestion at Dunlop Crossing. Residents frequently faced severe traffic jams at the Nivedita Bridge and nearby areas. To address this issue, new rules were implemented starting Saturday.

Four roads converge at Dunlop Crossing on BT Road. Roads from Shyambazar and Barrackpore meet here, along with the routes to and from Dakshineswar. Additionally, the entry and exit points for the Nivedita Bridge are located near Sabeda Bagan. Prolonged traffic jams in these areas have long troubled commuters. Following repeated complaints, senior police officials in Barrackpore recently convened a high-level meeting. Subsequently, Barrackpore Police Commissioner Alok Rajoria issued a notice regarding traffic diversion to resolve the problem.

As per the directive, from 8 PM to 10 PM, vehicles heading towards Barrackpore from Shyambazar will not be allowed to cross Dunlop Crossing. All vehicles must turn left from Dunlop Crossing onto PWD Road, reach the Dakshineswar Bus Island, loop back via PWD Road to BT Road, and proceed towards Barrackpore. Dunlop traffic police anticipate that implementing this rule will minimize signal delays at Dunlop Crossing, facilitating smoother transit for vehicles coming from Nivedita Bridge and Dakshineswar.

On the other hand, vehicles heading towards Barrackpore from Dakshineswar previously bypassed the signal at Dunlop Crossing by taking PWD Road through Sabeda Bagan and RN Tagore Road to access BT Road. Small vehicles heading from Barrackpore to Dakshineswar also used this route. However, under the new directive, RN Tagore Road via Sabeda Bagan will only allow inbound traffic from 6 AM to 5 PM. From 5 PM to 10 PM, this road will exclusively allow outbound traffic.

Barrackpore Police are optimistic that properly implementing these rules will significantly ease traffic congestion in the area.
