The North East now has another new tourist spot where people can enjoy boating with a forest in the background. People visiting Kalimpong, Lava and Loleygaon will easily be able to visit this new tourist spot. The Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) has set up this boating complex in the district where tourists will be able to enjoy boating in paddle boats. The boating complex was recently inaugurated by GTA chairman Anit Thapa. This boating complex is situated across an area of two and a half acres and is called Nok-dara tourist complex. It lies between two popular tourist destinations Lava and Loleygaon; 9 km from Lava, 5 km from Loleygaon and 40 km from Kalimpong. The Nok-dara tourist complex has a 9,990 sq. metre lake along with vast lawns and gardens. Suraj Sharma, assistant director of tourism, GTA said, "At present we have five pedal boats. In future the number will increase. As there are popular tourist destinations nearby including Lava, Loleygaon and Kafer, we are anticipating that this tourist spot will soon evolve into a major attraction".
GTA chairman Anit Thapa said, "We have to come up with new tourist destinations. In the past many tourist facilities including guest houses and bungalows were torched. It is time to forego that path and start building rather than destroying. Such projects will not only boost tourism in the Hills but will also generate employment". The project was initiated by the Tourism Engineering department in May 2015 but it stalled during the 2017 agitations. The second phase of the project commenced in August 2019 and was completed at a cost of Rs 14, 16, 76, 968.
