Beginning this academic year, St Xavier’s College will begin post graduate courses in English, Political Science and Bengali. However, the Masters in Bengali will be available at the Raghavpur campus of the college at South 24 Parganas and not at the Kolkata campus.
Principal of the college, Father Dominic Savio SJ said that along with the three new courses, online admission process for seven post-graduate courses have begun and will continue till May 20. Admission test will be conducted on May 25 while the first merit list will be issued on June 8. All the post graduate classes will begin from July 10.
Students who have gone through ICSE and CBSE can apply for B Com and BMS courses till May 31 while Higher Secondary students can do it till June 7. Admission test for those from ICSE and CBSE for the BMS course will be conducted on June 1 and those of the state board it will be June 8.
Although the dates of admission test for the two boards are different because of the difference in dates of issue of results, the principal said that there was nothing to apprehend and that the standard of questions would be the same.
The college has also begun short term professional courses such as nursing, pisciculture and hotel management to make students industry-ready. There is also a course in spoken English taught at the college.
