The PWD (Public Works Department) has reported that they are trying to follow a schedule to complete the construction of the new Majherhat bridge by Durga Puja of 2020. A Haryana based company, SP Singla Constructions Pvt Ltd has been given the contract to build a new bridge in place of the bridge that had fallen apart on September 4, 2018. The company has been given a deadline of one year to complete the construction of the new bridge. State PWD minister Aroop Biswas said, "I can assure you that Majerhat Bridge will be completed before Durga Puja next year". Two spans of the collapsed bridge have been dismantled and cleared out already where the rest two spans are expected to be cleared by January 2019. The new bridge is going to be a four-lane cable-stayed bridge which would be half a kilometer long. The height, however, will increase by 2 meters and will be 7.5-meter-high and 21.2 meter wide. The new bridge will start from Burdwan Road-DH Road crossing in the north and end at NR Avenue in the south.
