43rd International Kolkata Book fair will kick-start from January 30, 2019, in Central Park Mela grounds at Salt Lake. This year’s focus country will be Central American nation- Guatemala. "The focal theme this time is - The Heart of the Mayan World-Guatemala," said Guild General Secretary Tridib Chatterjee. The previous year, 2 million book lovers visited the mela ground and book worth 22 crores were sold which is comparatively higher than the time when the fair used to take place at the Milan Mela grounds. Due to the undergoing renovation of Milan Mela ground, the fair is shifted to Salt Lake where approximately 600 publishers and 200 small magazines stalls will set up.
Apart from the regular countries, Iran will be participating in the fair for the first time. As a chief guest honorable Chief Minister of West Bengal Smt. Mamata Banerjee will be present during the inauguration. Around 20 countries from Asia, Europe, and Latin America will take part in this mega event.
As per reports, if everything goes smoothly then Pakistan may participate with Iran. Bookaholics get ready to experience a new genre of books in 2019. Apart from this fair, Kolkata will witness a huge gathering between 7-9th January for the 6th Kolkata Literary Festival.
