A common research and technology development hub for affordable healthcare will be set up at IIT Kharagpur. The initiative is aligned with its 400-bed super speciality hospital and supported by the Centre’s department of scientific and industrial research. Issues of accessibility and affordability will be addressed and this in a way would be helping in the improvement of the modern healthcare system with technological innovations.
A major challenge in the rural areas of India is the access to quality primary healthcare. Almost 80% of healthcare technology being imported, leads to escalating of the cost of delivering services. Setting up of a modern tech-based health hub would also help in the reduction in the concentration of leading healthcare units in urban areas. This would help improve the accessibility issue.
