New cybercrime police stations to be set up

The West Bengal Government has decided to set up 25 more cybercrime police stations across the state.  The police stations will be set up in districts and one will be set up in the headquarters of Criminal Investigation Department (CID). A total of 249 new posts will be created in different categories and 24 software specialists and consultants will be recruited for smooth operations of the new police stations. The software specialists and consultants will be monitoring social media activities. Chandrima Bhattacharya, Minister of state for Land, Land Reforms, and Health said, "The instances of cybercrime are rising day by day. The proposed Cyber Crime Police Stations will help generate awareness among common people and at the same time, tackle cyber problems faced by citizens in an effective manner. The police stations will also ensure that proper probes of the complaints related to cybercrime are conducted". For now, two cyber police stations, one at the Kolkata Police headquarters in Lalbazar and one under Bidhannagar City Police already exist and it is hoped that setting up of new cybercrime departments will be helpful in conducting special vigilance and taking strong action against cybercrimes.
