Naka checking in Kolkata ahead of elections

The Kolkata Police has set up several checkpoints across the city in order to take strict actions against smuggling of unaccounted for money, liquor and arms ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Officers from various police stations of the city have been posted in certain points of the city for checking vehicles, two such instances being checkpoints in Ballygunge Phanri and Ashutosh Chowdhury Avenue. Check points are being set up on the road by the police using crash barriers which had posters instructing people to go slow for a vehicle check. The officers are zeroing on suspicious looking, fast moving vehicles and vehicles with tinted window panes and stopping them for a routine check. Though private cars with families inside are not being stopped usually, app cabs and normal yellow taxis are often being asked to stop for the check.  Commercial vehicles too are being stopped in the naka check posts. The Kolkata Police has currently set up 82 checkpoints across the city as per instructions of the Commissioner of Police. Video surveillance of those checkpoints is also being done from the control room. Although these check points are generally set up during night, the police have felt that it is equally important to monitor movements of vehicles during the day.
