Musings of Tagore in movies

Rabindranath Tagore needs no introduction. He is next to god to most of the Bengalis. Known for his versatility, the noble laureate was noted for his various works. He was a novelist, a poet, a song composer, a painter, a playwright and an essayist. Born to religious reformer and Hindu philosopher Devendranath Tagore and Sarada Devi in Calcutta at Jorashakho Thakurbari, the maestro got the Noble Prize for Literature in 1913, which was stolen from Viswa-Bharati University vault in 2004.

However, one of Tagore’s notable arenas of work was his collection of self-written songs which he called “Rabindra Sangeet”. The prolific composer wrote around 2,230 songs which he complied into a book and named it “Geetobitan”. Rabindra Sangeet is divided into six “Parjaay”. “Parjaay” simply means, position, order or class. The six “Parjaay’s” that Rabindra Sangeet is divided into are; Puja (offerings), Prem (Love), Swadesh (Patriotic), Prokriti (Nature), Anushthanik (Ceremonial) and Bichitro (Amazing)

Inspired from Hindustani Music and Thumri, Rabindra Sangeet trickles the human emotions. Rabindra Sangeet in fact, is that genre of music which can never fade away, rather shall be loved more and more in the days to come.

Apart from being compiled and sung by various popular singers earlier and even now, Rabindra Sangeet has been used in many commercial films as well. Some of the famous Rabindra Sangeets used in commercial films are:
