Museums are definitely the first place you need to pay a visit if you want to know more about a place- its history, culture and the people. It is looking back on our forefather’s lives and how we’ve evolved in the grounds of creativity, appearance, knowledge and technology. Here are some great museums you should visit in Kolkata:
- Indian Museum
This definitely comes at the top of the list, being the ninth oldest museum in the world and the most visited museum in Kolkata. The most popular attractions are the Egyptian mummy, the relics from the Indus Valley civilisation and the Stupa remains.
- Mother’s Wax Museum
One of the newest museums in the city, this is the city’s very own rendition of Madame Tussaud’s. You can find some of your favourite celebrities here, and can click a picture with them (wax models of course). There is also a souvenir shop at the exit gate.
- Smaranika Tram Museum
This museum is entirely dedicated to trams. In fact, this museum itself is actually a revamped tram. There are photo albums, staff uniforms and even a display of the different tickets over the years.
- Fanattic Sports Museum
Bengal’s first sports museum houses a number of rare cricket artefacts and autographed jerseys apart from items from the Olympics and Paralympics. There are also rare tickets, photographs and souvenirs. The museum is growing rapidly, with more players donating their personal belongings to the museum.
