More galleries to open in Indian Museum

The Indian Museum has recently decided to open new galleries for public viewing. The administration has decided to come up with 20 new galleries to be opened soon for the public. 13 out of 20 of these galleries will be set up in Belvedre House on the campus of National Library and the rest 7 will be situated in the Currency Building in Dalhousie Square. The Director of the Museum, Rajesh Purohit said, "Most of the museums in the world have huge collection of artifacts but only 4 to 5 percent of these exhibits can be displayed. Lack of space is one of the major constraints on the part of the museums across the world and the 206 year old Indian Museum is not an exception. The Centre has given us the nod to expand our museum and accordingly we have started working on it". The Indian Museum currently has 1.08 lakhs artifacts in its collection, however; only 5 percent of the artifacts are displayed in galleries for public viewing. The Museum authorities have informed that they want to unveil the new galleries to the public by January 2020. Purohit said, "The two new destinations will surely give a big boost to tourism". Like all other great museums around the world, Indian museum too is spreading its wings with more galleries to be exhibited.
