Popular actor Mithun Chakraborty’s mother, Shantirani Chakraborty, passed away on Friday, June 6 in Mumbai. The news of his mother's demise was confirmed by the actor's youngest son, Namashi Chakraborty. He told the media, "Yes, the news is true. Grandma is no longer with us." According to media reports, she succumbed to geriatric issues.
Trinamool Congress spokesperson Kunal Ghosh took to Twitter and offered condolences for Santirani's death. He wrote, "Heartfelt condolences to Mithun Chakraborty for the loss of his mother. May Mithunda and her family bear this deep grief."
BJP member Agnimitra Paul also tweeted in Bengali, which read, "This loss is beyond repair. I hope that Mithun Da is able to face this hour of grief and loss with strength. Rest in power, Aunty. Om Shanti."
Recently, Mithun has been working for the Bengali reality show Dance Bangla Dance, season 12. His co-artists have also expressed their deepest condolences.
Several netizens posted condolence messages for Mithun Chakraborty on social media after hearing of his loss. In April 2020, Mithun Chakraborty lost his father, Basantakumar Chakraborty, at the age of 95 due to kidney failure.
