Chairman and CEO of Miss World Organisation Julia Morley initiated the drive for awareness regarding menstrual hygiene way back in 1974 and since then the campaign has been carried on by the various beauties who have won the competition. This 2nd February, Miss World 2017 Manushi Chillar was in the city with her campaign on 'Feminine Hygiene Awareness' as part of her tour for 'Beauty with a Purpose.'
Menstrual hygiene awareness is extremely important and people unaware of it should be provided proper education on the matter. The diva landed in Kolkata on the 2nd and was in the city for two days while visiting several places along with eight other Miss World winners to spread the word of awareness on menstrual hygiene, sharing their experiences, explaining the pros and cons thereof and educating the masses who choose to stay aloof on the subject.
Aakar is an NGO, which helps promote awareness on menstrual hygiene and provides sanitary napkins at extremely low cost in rural as well as urban areas. Miss World Manushi Chillar's initiative got huge support from Aakar. The diva also visited Indian Jute Industries Research Association (IJIRA), which is a unit of Aakar, making sanitary napkins out of jute at a very low cost.
