Acting Legend Shashi Kapoor passed away today evening at 5:20 p.m. in Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital.
“Yes, he has passed away. He had a kidney problem and was on dialysis for several years," his nephew Randhir Kapoor, the son of the late Raj Kapoor, said.
Shashi Kapoor has starred in several films such as Deewar, Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Namak Halaal, Kabhie Kabhie, Shaan,Do aur do Paanch and many others. He was the younger brother of Raj and Shammi Kapoor.
Shashi Kapoor made his Bollywood debut in 1961 in the film Dharamputra. He also worked in a few English movies such as Householder and Shakespeare-Wallah.
Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi said in one tweet, “Shashi Kapoor’s versatility could be seen in his movies as well as in theatre, which he promoted with great passion. His brilliant acting will be remembered for generations to come. Saddened by his demise. Condolences to his family and admirers”.
Shashi Kapoor is survived by two sons, Kunal and Karan, and a daughter, Sanjana, who takes care of the iconic Prithvi Theatre in Mumbai.
