As per the Kolkata Metro Railway officials, metro services are likely to be boosted by the remodeling of the Tollygunge yard beyond Mahanayak Uttam Kumar station. With the completion of the track works, the travel time between Dum Dum and Kavi Subhash is likely to reduce by two minutes. As the speed restrictions will be removed, the trains can now move at a pace of 55 km/hr, rather than the previous 20 km/hr speed due to the presence of a steep curve between Netaji and Mahanayak Uttam Kumar stations. Also, the daily services of 300 trains will be restored soon which were reduced to 284 due to the construction work which started a month ago. Almost seven lakh commuters avail the Metro services daily with the morning and the evening being the peak hours. With the lines being straightened, extension of the Y-siding at the yard, and addition of a new track the metro services will be uninterrupted and beneficial to the daily passengers.
