Metro rail ticketing app on the cards?

To cut down on the time wasted in queuing up which often led to missed trains by a whisker, Metro Rail authorities have found a solution – developing a new ticketing application which commuters can download on their smartphone and use it to purchase tickets.
Metro Rail officials said that although during peak time of the day all the ticket counters would be functioning, the ticketing app will be handy in getting a quick ticket an boarding the train saving a lot of time. This facility already exists for commuters of Indian Railways.
Sources also said that the test run of the app is already on and soon will be available for commuters to download it.
On the app, users will have to click on the desired station and pay through an e-wallet. After that, a QR code will be displayed which would be scanned at the smartgate of the station, helping the user to reach the platform. Research is being made to make the app more user-friendly and easy to use.
After a mishap at Park Street Metro Station on July 13, which claimed one casualty, Metro Rail authorities have decided on stepping up on the security aspect. Metro Rail authorities have also announced already that if a passenger tries to rush into a moving train, he/she can be fined up to Rs 1000.
It is expected that with the introduction of the app, the rush will be taken care of to a great extent.
