In a bid to improve the already flourishing healthcare facilities in Bengal, a meeting was organised which was attended by health experts, citizens, and community organisations to discuss on accessibility, equity and affordability of healthcare. The ruminations covered a wide array of subjects, universal health coverage (UHC) on the lines of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development adopted at the United Nations meet in 2015.
According to Dr Hilde De Graev, WHO India health system team leader, a thorough assessment of the sections of the society is required to find out whether they are deprived of any healthcare facilities. The two-day national consultation on ‘UHC For All’ kicked-off on Thursday, organised by Kolkata Rista, a community-based organization. Among the various points covered throughout the meet, one of the most important aspects covered was the need for improvement in the healthcare facilities of the transgender. Swati Bhattacharya, CCO, FCB India, mentioned that the mindset of the society needs to change and “if the society pushes”, the government would act accordingly and take care of all the grievances of the transgender and the common people. If proper measures are adopted, the healthcare facilities and also the well-being of the people would improve manifolds, which ultimately will lead to the progress of the Bengal!
