Matrimonial agency fined!

As astonishing as it may sound, a matrimonial agency in Mohali, Punjab was recently ordered to refund its charges that it took for its services after failing to find a bridegroom for its client. Surinder Pal Singh Chahal of Mohali had filed a case with District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum after the matrimonial agency ‘Wedding Wishes’ failed to find a bridegroom according to his preferences for his daughter. He informed the forum that the matrimonial agency had made him sign an agreement and that he had paid a sum of Rs. 50,000 for being registered under the category of “royal member”. Chahal also mentioned that the wedding agency had assured him and his family that it would come up with an appropriate match within nine months by uploading 18 profiles in their website. However, the agency failed to find a bridegroom which matched their requirements. Following this, Chahal terminated the agreement and demanded a refund with interest since the agency couldn’t keep up their assurances. Chahal filed a case with the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum after which the forum ordered the matrimonial agency ‘Wedding Wishes’ to refund ₹50,000 with 9% interest and ₹12,000 as compensation and litigation expenses to Surinder Pal Singh Chahal. The forum said, “All these absurd profiles were nothing but a waste for the complainant. All this has not only wasted the precious time of the complainant but also caused them gross mental agony and physical harassment. The Opposite Party has miserably failed in their professional services by not providing a suitable match for the girl which leads to inordinate delay in fixation of her marriage”.
