West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will attend ‘Holi utsav’ and ‘Kavi sammelan’ on Tuesday at Nazrul Manch.
The event, organised by International Marwari Federation, is one of the biggest conglomeration of Hindi-speaking people in Bengal. Chairman of the federation and TMC leader Dinesh Bajaj said that reputed poet from Jaipur, Sampad Saral would be present.
Sources said that although she has been invited as the Chief Minister of the state, she is expected to recite some of the poems penned by her. Political scientists said that her presence ahead of the Lok Sabha polls had a lot of significance.
There are about 14 per cent Hindi speaking voters in the state present especially at several constituencies in north and south Bengal including Kolkata and to this section of voters, the ruling regime had taken several steps.
Mamata had been partaking in Chhat Puja and other celebrations of the Hindi speaking population of Bengal. The TMC government had initiated a two-day leave for Chhat Puja for the Hindi-speaking government employees and a college for the Hindi-speaking people had also been put up at Banarhat area in Jalpaiguri district.
In the recent past, she had also laid the foundation stone for the state’s first Hindi University in Howrah district. She said there would be two campuses of the university – one in Asansol and another one in north Bengal.
Bajaj has also been made the chief of a committee to look after the poll campaign at Hindi speaking belts of the state. He said that Hindi speaking people who can connect with the population at the grassroot level at these places would be sent to create an awareness campaign.
