In order to keep ourselves healthy, we need to keep our environment clean and green. On Sunday, the Army workforce along with the other management of 72 clubs in Kolkata, took the initiative to make the environment clean and healthy. The Maidan club belongs to the Ministry of Defence and the army curator maintains the Maidan. The clubs in the Maidan are rented.
According to the research conducted by the environmentalists, loss of greenery can be sensed over the years. On this occasion of Earth Day, the eastern command of army has stepped forward for an initiative of “Go Green” to keep the environment clean and look forward for better environment. They decided to clean up the areas inside Fort William as well as the areas conjoining the place. The Army Eastern Command organised for several programme for planting trees inside Fort William on Monday, which is considered as the World’s Earth Day. They also have formulated a programme to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide emission.
Lt Gen M M Naravane, GOC-in-C, Eastern Command expressed that he support safeguarding the environment and validate the ‘Swachh Bharat’ initiative. He also said that he firmly believes in the concept of 5 R’s which is : Reduce, Re-use, Recycle, Restore and Replenish and this is the reason he started this programme.
