London gears up to host the grandest congregation of Bengalis across Europe with the upcoming London Festival. Scheduled to kick off on April 20th and 21st at the prestigious Sattavis Patidar Centre in Wembley, the event promises a vibrant celebration of Bengali culture and heritage.
Distinguished guests and luminaries, including Shanku Bose, CEO of Techno India Group and Chairman of the London Festival Committee, unveiled the festival's ambitious aims at a press conference held at the Kolkata Rowing Club last Tuesday.
Among the attendees were Sayatan Sarkar, Editor and Candid UK correspondent for the London Festival Committee, along with Arunabh Bannerjee, Vice Chairman, and Swati Chakraborty, Director of Candid Communication.
Actress Rituparna Sengupta is the brand ambassador of this London festival, and the show will be hosted by Mir. Notable personalities from the Bengali music scene, such as Lopamudra Mitra, Joy Sarkar, Surojit Chatterjee, and Raghav Chatterjee, and actors Devlina Kumar, Debshankar Halder, Sahana Bajpayee, Samantak, and Tathagata SenGupta, are expected to grace the occasion.
On the other hand, organising committee members Shubham Dutta and Debashis Dutta could not come due to unavoidable reasons, but Sujoy Saha and Sharmistha Das were present. Besides, Aryani Banerjee, who gave the festival the name London Festival, was also present at this conference.
In a unique initiative, the festival aims to showcase various aspects of Bengali art, literature, cinema, and culinary delights, offering attendees a rich tapestry of experiences.
Additionally, literary sessions will be hosted in partnership with Dakbangla Dot Com.
Sayan Das Adhikari, the festival's organiser, revealed that a pre-event ceremony will be held at the House of Lords on April 19th, honouring dignitaries from Britain. The Kolkata Book Fair will also feature prominently during the festival, with plans to announce future dates on April 21st.
Furthermore, the organisers hinted at publishing a commemorative book ahead of the festival. Bangladesh's acclaimed actor Chanchal Chowdhury has been nominated as a special envoy, with the Friends of Bangladesh playing a pivotal role in the country's participation in the London Festival.
With its blend of cultural extravaganza and intellectual discourse, the London Festival promises to be a landmark event, fostering stronger bonds among Bengalis worldwide while celebrating the rich tapestry of Bengali heritage and identity.
