People in Bengal know about ration shops but they were not familiar with the word "Public distribution system". The system came to India long back and had a different style of “PDS”. This system was first adopted in India in 1939 in Bombay and subsequently spread to other states including Bengal.
This similar procedure was followed on 9th June at Alipore Sarbajanin. They took the initiative and inaugurated the exclusive life-long rationing system for the aged underprivileged citizens of Alipore and Chetla. The presiding guest of honour who presented and inaugurated this auspicious occasion was Sri Sobhan Deb Chattopadhyay (Hon’ble Minister, Power Department. corp., Govt of West Bengal), Debalina Biswas (Councillor, 74 Ward, Calcutta Municipal Corporation), Sri Swapan Banerjee (Chief Patron, All India Sports Cell), Dr. Pranab Biswas (Councillor, 82 ward, Calcutta Municipal Corporation), Sri Sanjeeb Maharaj of Belur Math, Sayan Deb Chattopadhyay (General Secretary, WBYTMC), Mehtab Hussain and others.
The members of the club took the initiative to render life-long ration system to the underprivileged and they reached the target of 350 people in June. However, according to Saheb das, the club’s target is to reach 500 underprivileged people. The next ration will be provided on 24th June. On 9th June, coupons have been distributed to the dwellers of Alipore and Chetla for the ration system. Apart from such great initiatives, health camps, blood donation camps are provided by the club every year. When asked about the future plans to Saheb Das, “We are targeting for a lifetime Medical to the dwellers.”
According to Councillor Deblina Biswas, “If Hon’ble Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee Can provide us with Rs 2 rice per kilo and other necessities then why can’t we follow such path? Hence, to follow her good deeds and the noble path, Alipore Sarbajanin took such initiative to provide ration system for the aged people. The procedure of providing ration started from today and citizens who are carrying the card will be provided with ration twice in a month,” Apart from ration distribution, clothes were given to 3 Imams for the of Ramzan.
