Eminent singer, Sabita Chowdhury, widow of composer Salil Chowdhury, passed away at her residence on 29th June after losing her five-month long battle with cancer. Sabita Chowdhury, 72, left behind two sons and two daughters.
Although married to one of the greatest composers of music, Sabita Chowdhury made a deep impression as a singer in her own right. Many of her Bengali songs have retained their charm among the public through the decades.
Among some of her famous songs are Oi jhilmil jhauer boney, Jaare jaa jaa mono paakhi, Jhilmil jhilmil opaarero monjil and Du chokhey aashaar nodi chhalachhal.
“Saddened at the passing of popular singer Sabita Chowdhury (wife of Salil Chowdhury). My condolences to her family, friends and fans” tweeted Chief Minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee while expressing grief.
