Laxmi Puja: When is Lakshmi Puja this year? Find out all the details and timings of this puja

Lakshmi Puja is held right after Durga Puja. Goddess Lakshmi is the deity of wealth, fortune, and beauty. According to mythology, 'Kojagari' comes from 'Ko Jagarti.' this means 'Who is awake?' It is said that on this full moon night, Goddess Lakshmi embarks on a journey around the world, searching for those who are awake.

Another belief is that those who stay awake and play dice on Kojagari Purnima night are blessed with wealth by Goddess Lakshmi. Hence, every household worships the Goddess for prosperity and comfort. This year, Lakshmi Puja is held on Wednesday, October 16.

• Gupta Press calendar - the Purnima Tithi begins on Wednesday at 7:42 PM and ends the next day, Thursday, at 5:17 PM.
• Vishuddha Siddhanta calendar - the Kojagari Purnima Tithi begins on Wednesday at 8:41 PM and ends the next day, Thursday, at 4:56 PM.

Most Bengali Hindu families worship Goddess Lakshmi with devotion. The deity is offered 'Panchbhog' (a five-course offering). The puja is performed with an idol, clay pot, 'Navapatrika,' or a boat made from banana tree stems. Various types of clay Lakshmi figures are used. The festival is celebrated by drawing 'alpana.'
