As per the instruction of our honorable Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Bandyopadhyay with due renovation and effort by the forest protection team, Lamhatta has turned into a wonderful tourist destination. If you are in search of a proper honeymoon destination, nothing can be better than Lamhatta. It is just 23 kms from Darjeeling but it is located at a height of 5700 feet.
How to reach: If you are travelling by train, get down at NJP and from there it is best to hire taxis or cars. You can also take a flight to Bagdogra and from there book a car to reach Lamhatta. It will take 2 hours by car approximately.
Where to stay: Lamhatta has turned into an eco-tourism spot and now you will find home stays and lodgings over there. The villagers have arranged the same for the tourists and they provide high quality food in exchange for money. Home stays are very simple and enjoyable to stay in but it is wise to book beforehand.
What to see: Lamhatta is great for trekking. Take a short nature trail. You will find a lake at the top of the hill. This lake’s considered sacred by the villagers. The orchid center is open every season. Tea estates are worth visiting while in Lamhatta. Rangoliot tea estate, Glenburn tea estate, Takdah Tea estates are prime places to visit. There are many viewpoints in Lamhatta but the best is Peshoke view. From these places you will be able to see the confluence of river Rangeet and Teesta and this is known as Tribeni. Pay your visit to cave temple, village mountain farming, and Gumpa monastery.
