The Ministry of Human Resource Development has recently launched the updated National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) and various universities from Kolkata have topped the list. Infact, Calcutta University and Jadavpur University is on the top ten of the recently published list. Calcutta University has been awarded the fifth spot whereas Jadavpur University stands at six. In the overall rankings too, both the institutions have done very well. Calcutta University in the overall rankling stands at 12 and Jadavpur University at 13.
On this note, the Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University Sonali Chakravarti Banerjee said,
It is a result of our teamwork and our constant effort in up gradation of our academics and research. We have already started developing the infrastructure of having an integrated system linking all our campuses. Our aim is to figure at the top spot and for this we are taking new decisions to raise the academic and research standard of the varsity.
Last year Calcutta University was placed at 14 in the list and it has certainly improved a lot since then. Jadavpur University on the other hand stays on the same 6th position on the list.
Vice-Chancellor Suranjan Das of Jadavpur University said, “It is great news for Bengal with two of its universities figuring in top 10. I feel very happy because I was also associated with CU for many years."
Ramkrishna Mission Vivekananda Centenary College of Rahara, North 24 Parganas and St. Xavier's College too are on the list at the eighth and tenth spots respectively.
