Kolkata Metro: The obstacles in the construction of the Garia-Airport Metro have been cleared

Kolkata metro rail special lines construction obstacles have been cleared. A metro rail project has been underway for a long time in several densely populated areas of Kolkata. However, the rail authorities faced challenges constructing pillars in the Chingrighata area adjacent to the EM Bypass. Now those obstacles have been removed and the construction of the line has progressed.

In the 29-kilometer project of the metro's Orange Line, from Kobir Subhash to the airport, there were barriers due to eight high-rises constructed at various points along the route. The residents of seven of these high-rises were compensated and relocated. However, it was not possible to persuade the residents of the building opposite Captain Bheri to vacate their homes. That issue has now been resolved. As a result, uninterrupted viaduct construction can proceed from Pier No 310 to 329.

While most of the work on the East-West Metro (Green Line) is nearly complete, there is still a significant amount of work remaining on the New Garia-Airport (Orange Line), Joka-Esplanade (Purple Line), and Noapara-Barasat (Yellow Line) metro corridors.

The rail authorities plan to launch passenger services from New Garia to the airport up to Beleghata by the end of this year. Additionally, metro services may be initiated from Noapara to Dum Dum Cantonment on the Noapara-Barasat line.
