Kolkata Metro: Metro rail authorities introduce an additional ₹10 charge for night metro services

The Kolkata Metro Rail authorities have introduced a revision in fares. They announced that passengers availing of the last metro service on the Blue Line at night will have to pay an additional ₹10 surcharge. This new rule will come into effect on December 10.

In June, the Metro Rail authorities adjusted the timings for night metro services, but this change was limited to the Blue Line. For nighttime services, two special metro trains are operated at 10:40 PM, one from Kavi Subhash to Dum Dum and the other from Dum Dum to Kavi Subhash. However, trial runs revealed that very few passengers used these services during this time. To address this issue metro rail authorities imposed an extra ₹10 surcharge.

The Kolkata Metro is a key mode of transportation for countless passengers. While these special night metros are convenient for many, the low number of passengers does not cover the operating costs. To offset these expenses, the rail authorities introduced this new surcharge, which will apply exclusively to the special night trains.

It is noteworthy that these two special trains operate five days a week. However, ticket counters at stations remain closed during this time. Passengers using this service must purchase tickets via UPI payments or ASCRM machines installed at the stations.
