In excess of two thousand participants came over from all over India, including C.R.P.F, B.S.F, Indo Tibetan Police Force, and Assam Rifles along with many other para-military forces. All the State Champions participated in this event to decide upon the National Champion.
The tournament has various categories of competitions divided into Male and Female and also as per different weight categories.
“This event will be the basis of selection for India’s representative for the Asiad as well as the Olympics” said Pankaj Poddar (2nd Dan Black Belt holder, National Judge for Karate competitions and Editor of Martial Art Times).
Karate is divided into two parts, ‘Kata’ and ‘Kumite’ which involves various forms of attack and defence. Kata is a dangerous technique to practice upon another person as it involves moves such as piercing of eyes or throat and even strangulation. Rather than practice such moves on an opponent, it is best that this form is judged on the basis of shadow fight with an imaginary opponent,” he added.
The organizer for this event, KAB is a non-profit organization which is affiliated to Indian Olympic Association. KAB is also involved in providing clothes and books to needy people, organizing blood donation camps, anti drug rallies and collection of funds for victims of natural calamities.
