Kolkata Bangladesh First Container Train Flagged off

Since 1980, India Bangladesh tie-up has initiated a huge expansion in our industrial sector. The bilateral hostile relationship between the two countries has turned out to be different with time. India has funded the rail bridges on Bhoirab and Titas rivers, in the Brahmaputra district. “Bandhan Express” between Khulna in Bangladesh and Kolkata has also strengthened the bond between the two countries.

Now, a container train connecting Kolkata and Bangladesh for the first time was flagged off, from a terminus of the Container Corporation of India Ltd. on Tuesday morning. The train is beset with 60 containers and 30 wagons. This is quite a wise decision because a truck that connects the two neighboring countries takes almost a month to deliver the goods. Therefore, a connecting train was essential.

The first ever container train loaded with cattle feed will be covering a distance of 300 km. This will travel through Sealdah, Naihati, Gede in India, and Darsana and Ishurdi in Bangladesh. The entire journey is set to complete within 24 hours. According to one of the railway officials, “this is just a trial run. But if this goes successfully then more goods will be ferried on such trains.”
