Kalighat skywalk construction to begin soon

The Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority (KMDA) is all set to begin the construction of the 450 metres skywalk which is proposed to be built near Kalighat temple for free movements of the devotees visiting the temple. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after inaugurating a similar kind of a skywalk-‘Rani Rashmoni skywalk’ at Dakshineswar temple had instructed the government officials to build a similar skywalk in Kalighat temple of south Kolkata. As a result the concerned government officials looked into the matter and proposed a plan for construction of such a skywalk. Mayor-in-Council (Parks and Gardens) Debasish Kumar recently reported that the tender has been given out already for the construction of the skywalk and the construction works will begin soon. Kumar said,

As per plans, the skywalk will be constructed from Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Road and will go up to the Kalighat police station. Apart from that, the hawkers who have shops in the Kalighat Refugee Hawkers Corner on S P Mukherjee Road, will also be rehabilitated to a building which will be constructed in its place.
