A group of experts met in the Indian Museum on Thursday because a ball is rolling towards the Kolkata which will give it recognition as UNESCO-listed World heritage City. The conglomeration of honchos there consisted of academics, heritage conservationists, architects, bureaucrats who brainstormed a session on increasing the involvement of common citizens in the movement and identifying the heritage sites of Kolkata. Till date Ahmedabad is the only India’s World Heritage City.
Our Kolkata has all the potentials to become the heritage city, as per some reports. The authorities of Indian museum have said that they want the people of the city to get engaged in the preservation of the city’s heritages. To get enlisted in the UNESCO List of World Heritage City, the nominated city must match with at least one of ten criteria set by the organisation.
It is a proud moment for the Kolkatans that the city met one or more factors among the ten. Dalhousie itself is an ideal site for being selected as the world Heritage City, according to reports of an architect. Other delegates have confirmed the Ghats of Kolkata offer slice of history. The north Kolkata itself is a heritage site, another analyst reported.
We are proud that the tangible and intangible facets of Kolkata have enough potential to baptize the city as World Heritage City.
