"Nurse: just another word to describe a person strong enough to tolerate anything and soft enough to understand anyone." – Medelita.
The quoted line perfectly defines the role of a nurse in the society. Unfortunately, in the health care business, doctors are considered most important. It has to be noted that nurses play an equally significant role in the system, being responsible for the well-being, safety and retrieval of patients.
In order to acknowledge the noble works of the nurses around the world, 12th May of every year is being celebrated as “INTERNATIONAL NURSE DAY “, in the memory of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. The beginning of “Nurses Day” goes back to 1953, when Dorothy Sutherland, an officer from the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare proposed the celebration of this day. The International Council of Nurses (ICN) has celebrated this day since 1965 and they come up with variable themes each year to rejoice the day. The theme of this year would be “Nurses A Voice to Lead – Health is a Human right”.
So, take this day as an opportunity to appreciate the contributions of those nurses who gave their precious time in nurturing you while you were ill, because just by letting her know that she has succeeded in her duty is a reward in itself.
"I attribute my success to this; I never gave nor took any excuse." —Florence Nightingale
