Air travelling has helped several passengers to reach their destination in due time for many years now. By road or by water still a time consuming journey but with planes the journey not only save time but gave passengers desired comfort. However, one thing about flying, that several commuters complained about is, the long queues one has to face while getting their baggage checked before boarding the plane.
The Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport or CCU in Kolkata has always boasted a large crowd. The crowds increase in the times of festivities, but the queues for baggage always remains a little bit hectic. It has been an integral problem of the airport, but recently they came up with a solution to help their commuters have an easy journey from now on. A new technology named inline baggage system have been introduced and is about to start its work pretty soon.
The first phase of the in-line X-Ray Baggage Inspection System (XBIS) is said to have been installed along with Computer Tomography X-Ray (CTX) machines at seven conveyor belts in the Kolkata Airport. The new technology will help ease the queue trouble at hand by scanning up to 1800 luggage’s in just an hour’s time span, which will save up to 15 minutes during the peak hours. The 8th conveyor belt is in need to be integrated before the CTX XBIS system are installed in the other 7 belts which will need some time for now. An American agency named, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) are to monitor the functionality and reliability in July, before the passengers can finally be introduced to the system in the Kolkata Airport. The reports are yet to be send to the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) for a final nod before the technology is made public. A separate team of men and women are to be trained for screening the scanned bags. The whole system is supposed get started before Independence Day if the nod from BCAS come within the end of July.
