The Indore district administration in Madhya Pradesh has announced a unique incentive programme for voters during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. Special rewards will be offered to those who cast their ballots between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. on polling day.
The initiative, termed 'special reward,' aims to entice citizens to participate actively in the democratic process. Voters heading to the polls during the specified time frame will be treated to complimentary snacks such as poha, jalebi, and chowmein, along with refreshing ice cream, all free of charge.
But what prompted the district administration to roll out this special initiative?
According to officials, the decision stems from a notable increase in voter turnout compared to previous elections. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, only 69% of eligible voters in the Indore constituency exercised their franchise. However, this year, there has been a significant rise in voter participation, prompting authorities to introduce the incentive programme.
District Magistrate Ashish Singh elaborated on the details, stating that voters who cast their ballots between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m., especially first-time voters and those who are 60 or older, will be eligible to receive complimentary poha and jalebi.
Additionally, they will also be treated to ice cream from any renowned food outlet in Indore. Furthermore, voters will be entitled to free snacks in case they spot the indelible ink mark on their fingers post-voting.
Not only that, any voter who votes between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. will be given free Chowmein and Manchurian.
