Recently the rain wreaked havoc in Kerala and nobody can guarantee that this would not happen again. So, by the year-end, Kolkata will have its first flood forecasting system. The app will tell the users which road to take and avoid in case of waterlogging. The Kolkata Municipal Corporation in association with the Asian Development Bank for developing this forecasting system, which is a first of its kind in India.
KMC is planning to develop more user-friendly apps for both the citizens and the government bodies. They have already developed one such app for the traffic wings of the city that will help them divert vehicles from the waterlogged areas during heavy rainfall.
Mayor of the city launched this app on Thursday and said that
about 450 sensors will be installed at flood-prone areas including drainage pumping and lifting stations.
The app will also help the drainage department to watch the precise level of rainwater at the city’s drainage pumping station during heavy rainfalls.
