In an effort to explore India’s ancient roots in Vastu Shastra, IIT Kharagpur decided to introduce courses in the traditional Hindu system of architecture. It is a part of the institute’s Science and Heritage Initiative (SandHI) which will oversee the curriculum style.
To begin with it, lessons in Vastu Shastra will be incorporated within the history of architecture I and II at the undergraduate level; and with facility planning and management at the postgraduate level.
Prof (Dr) Joy Sen, professor, architecture and regional planning and head of the department of IIT Kharagpur’s Ranbir and Chitra Gupta School of Infrastructure Design and Management (RCGSIDM) said there was huge demand among the new generation for such a course.
