ICU Vs CCU: What is the difference between ICU and CCU?

Whenever people fall sick, they seek the help of a doctor. It leads them to hospitals. However, many are unaware of the exact functions of various hospital departments. Such two confusing terms are ICU (Intensive Care Unit) and CCU (Critical Care Unit).

ICU (Intensive Care Unit) and CCU (Critical Care Unit) may sound similar but they are entirely different. Both terms are separate based on the patient's medical condition and treatment.

The full form of the ICU is the Intensive Care Unit, and CCU stands for Critical Care Unit. Patients are admitted to the ICU when they are very ill, and the CCU is primarily for those patients suffering from heart disease.

These two departments are also structured differently. The ICU is a fully equipped room with advanced life-support systems and monitoring equipment. In emergency conditions, patients are kept under constant observation. It primarily treats patients suffering from sepsis and organ failure. On the other hand, the CCU is focused on cardiac monitoring, defibrillators, and ECG machines. It offers advanced treatment to patients with cardiac issues.
