The Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO) has decided to install IoT(Internet of Things) devices under the 'Green City Clean City' project in New Town. The devices will be installed in lamp posts to conserve power consumption. The IoT devices will be first installed in 100 lamp posts as a part of trial, after which it will be installed in other lamp posts too. The motive behind setting up of these devices is to optimise and control power consumption. The device will save power based on external conditions like less traffic and bright daylight. It will switch off the street lights when natural light is available and again switch it on when it’s dark. The IoT will also be able to control the intensity of the lights thus saving power. The device will also help to operate the street lights through an app from a central control room. Commands like ‘ON’, ‘OFF’ or ‘DIM’ can be given out from the control room through this IoT device via LoRA network, a wide-area network for efficient machine to machine communication and an application. Installations of these devices will be carried out on a 1Km stretch within a week. HIDCO has already taken significant steps to conserve power in New Town and this certainly is a major addition to the list.
