A man ahead of his time, courageous enough to reflect the deep dark desires of the society on the silver screen. We are talking about Bengali film industry’s ‘Ritu da’, aka RituparnoGhosh. Long before Srijit Mukherjee and other contemporary directors came into the scenario, Ghosh had set the stage for them. We cannot imagine anyone else daring to do a movie like ‘ArektiPremerGolpo’, a movie which revolves around a very sensitive subject. On May 30th,2013 a deep darkness set upon the Bengali film industry as the director took his last breath.
As William Shakespeare said, “All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players; they have their exits and their entrances”, Ritu da departed and took all his creativity along with him. As if he only came to show us and the society that being different is not bad. His contribution to the film industry is unparalleled. He is no longer with us anymore but he has created a distinctive presence in our hearts and minds.
