Bengal has literally forgotten what spring is like or how it feels. The temperature during March is around 40 degrees in places like Bankura and Purulia while Kolkata has recorded a highest of 36degree this season. It is absolutely essential to keep yourself cool during the summers. Drinking a lot of fluids is a must do during the summers as staying hydrated is of primary importance.
Apart from water, ‘Ghol’ is Bengalis most preferred summer drink. The hot summer afternoons are incomplete without a glass of ‘ghol.’ The ‘ghol’ tastes even better if it is made with ‘Gondhoraj lebu.’ Preparing a glass of ‘ghol’ is way easier than lassi and even the ingredients used to make ‘ghol’ is readily available at home. The smell of the hybrid lime better known by Bengalis as ‘Gondhoraj lebu’ is very refreshing.
All you require to make ‘Ghol’ is Yogurt or curd, little water and lime. Mix these three together in the desired proportion and stir well, add a pinch of rock salt or normal salt and its ready!
Simple, isn’t it? So, every time you want to cool yourself down, go and make a glass of ‘ghol’ to stay cool and hydrated.
Happy Summers!
