Greenfield University to be renamed as Darjeeling University

The government of West Bengal has decided to change the name of Greenfield University to Darjeeling University. A large section of the hill community will be delighted by the move as they were looking for a change in the name. On July 31^st a bill was passed by the Assembly with an objective to set up Greenfield University at Jogighat in Mungpoo (which is 30km from Darjeeling). The different sections of the hill community started placing their opinions after the bill was passed. According to them, the name should be changed for the sake of local people. Darjeeling MLA Amar Singh Rai had requested the government to look into this matter regarding the change in the name when the bill was being discussed in the Assembly. The government had decided to fulfil the demand after it was addressed. Hon’ble Chief minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee is looking into this matter. Greenfield University’s name is clearly mentioned in the varsity bill and it will be changed only after an amendment is processed in the Assembly. The students of Darjeeling Government College have requested the CM on Whatsapp to visit their college when she comes to Darjeeling. The classes will commence from Monday.
