The University of Calcutta decided to award an honorary degree to eminent personalities including the former governor of the state, Gopal Krishna Gandhi. The ceremony will be held on the annual convocation day of the university, which is on Monday at the Nazrul Mancha.
Besides the former governor, paediatrician Dilip Mahalanabis, a champion of the oral rehydration therapy and physician Sukumar Mukherjee will also be awarded at the convocation. Gandhi will be honoured with D'Litt and the others with a DSc degree. Last time the Chief Minister was honoured with this degree and this year almost 498 researchers will be given Ph.D.certificates. 113 LLM degrees and 236 MPhil degrees will also be awarded.
