From Reel to Real: “Do Ankhen Barah Haath” is coming to life!

Convicts will now hit the streets, with meals like Pulao, Biriyani and Chinese food, prepared by them. This reminds us of the 1957 hit “Do Ankhen Barah Hath”, where the jailer escapes with a dozen convicts, in a distant farmland, and teaches them lessons of hard work. This is exactly the approach; the state government has opted for. Convicts will now roam the streets, vending the meals prepared by them.

A Rehabilitation centre in Dumdum is about to initiate special cooking classes, for the convicts. According to sources, the Jail warden and the fishery department have collaborated for this initiative. Through this move, their goal is to ensure, that the convicts, after the fulfilment of their sentence, can return to a normal civilian life.

The officials at the Dumdum Rehabilitation centre have stated that every day, meals for about three-thousand people are being cooked currently. Apart from their daily staple of rice and lentils, they are being taught, how to cook different varieties of food.

According to the Fishery department of West Bengal, convicts at the canteen of the Dumdum Rehabilitation centre, are learning how to cook Continental, Chinese and other varieties of dishes. For now, they have chosen twenty four such convicts, later based on their abilities, they will be allowed to vend across the city.

Everyday two chosen convicts, will roam the city, selling their meals. For now Airport, Nagerbazar, Dumdum park and Baguihati, are the places, that have been chosen.
