The Forest Department of West Bengal has given out an order of extraction of a leopard that has caused many deaths in the tea gardens of Alipurduar for over a month. The order comes after a lot of people have lost their lives for this leopard and the forest department has not yet been able to capture the wild beast. This happens to be the first time in this state that an extraction order has been given out for a leopard. The order of extraction means that the forest department now has the license to shoot down the leopard if it cannot be captured by any other methods. Ravi Kant Sinha, Chief Wildlife Warden of Bengal said, "We have found out that one of the leopards in the tea gardens of Alipurduar has become 'very dangerous' and is posing a serious threat to human life in the area. The animal's attacks had proved fatal for three children and resulted in serious injuries to some others. We have identified that it is a single leopard that has been responsible for the attack. So, we have decided to go to extreme lengths and extract this leopard from the landscape". Similar kind of an order was given out for an elephant back in 2016 which was shot dead after it had caused pandemonium in the district of Burdwan.
