Forest department changes tradition

Our state’s forest department is going to break their tradition and change the signage’scolor combination from red-green to green-and-blue. This change in color is to promote the importance of water conservation.

The Forest Department declared that the change has to be implemented within a fortnight. The red colour symbolizes the soil and green colour indicates the trees on them. The red-green combination is used all over the country, but it is not mandatory.

There are over 250 range offices and 600 beat offices across the state of West Bengal. The signs have been red and green since the foundation of the Forest Research Institute at Dehradun in 1906. Assam uses the color combination of blue and yellow and Tamil Nadu and Karnataka use the combination of blue and green.
