Environment Quiz at Bhavan’s Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir

The South African cleric and Nobel Prize winner Desmond Tutu once said, “Twenty-five years ago people could be excused for not knowing much or doing much about climate change. Today we have no excuse.” The statement is extremely relevant today. With this thought, Bhavan’s Gangabux Kanoria Vidyamandir, Salt Lake, Kolkata organized a quiz competition based on environment issue.

An inter-school activity was organized wherein 16 students from 8 school’s participated in the ‘Environment Quiz Competition 2018’ at the Salt Lake Campus on 19th July from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.

The event aimed at creating awareness among students about environment related problems like pollution & plastic hazard and to educate them about optimum utilisation of resources.

An interactive session with every participating school was conducted by VINISHA (an NGO organized to create awareness for a greener environment). The discussion centered around climate change, what should be done/can be done and implementation of the same. Ideas were presented and information was shared among the students. Quiz Master Mr. Rajib Sanyal and Mr. Ramesh Chandan (environmental activist) conducted this competition. The 8 participating schools were :

  • Delhi Public School, Ruby Park
  • Bhavan’sK. Vidyamandir
  • Mahadevi Birla World Academy
  • Apeejay School, Salt Lake
  • Aditya Academy Secondary School, Barasat
  • Asian International School, Alampur
  • Hariyana Vidya Mandir
  • Army Public School, Ballygunge

The hosts won the competition with 145 points followed by Mahadevi Birla World Academy on 130 points. They were awarded with certificates and a saplings. From the Principal of the school to other members of the staff, everyone was present.
