The first working day of the new year turned out to be eventful for almost sixty-five schools in Bengal. The Bengali-medium schools were subject to a progressive change after English teaching was introduced in these institutions. Since the early 1980s, the medium of instruction in these schools were in Bengali, which is believed to be a significant factor in Bengal’s gradual decline in performance in all-India competitive exams and jobs. As engineering and other graduation programs require students to communicate in English, this move is likely to improve the status quo of the students. The West Bengal state government has taken the initiative to further accelerate the process and introduce it to other institutions as well. English is an important medium for higher studies and financial factor proves to be a hindrance for many students to study in private English-medium schools. So a decision was taken to provide quality education to these students at a low cost.
